CCAS Scrapbook of Photographs

CCAS Scrapbook
The Chester County Astronomical Society maintains an active calendar of public events throughout the year. Our scrapbook of photos from our events demonstrates our commitment to the local community and to the science of astronomy.

If your school or civic organization is interested in hosting a Night Out, contact our Observing Coordinator, Don Knabb. If you're interested in an educational demonstration, please contact our Education Chairperson, Kathy Buczynski.

Year 2006
The Chester County Astronomical Society had an exciting year of observations and public outreach in 2006.

National Astronomy Day
National Astronomy Day was held on May 6th, 2006. Each year the Chester County Astronomical Society has an information booth at the Exton Square Mall. People are encouraged to stop by the booth and pick up a brochure and ask any questions they may have about the science of astronomy.

Sponsored Spring Classes
The Chester County Astronomical Society sponsored a series of Introductory Astronomy classes which were open to the public (for a nominal fee) and held the first and third Tuesday evening from February through May.

School Visits
CCAS members paid a visit to the Willistown Country Day School on June 1st, 2006. Children were treated to an outdoor scale model of the solar system, a lesson on safe solar viewing, and an indoor electric model of the solar system.

Nights Out and Star Parties
On March 30th, 2006, CCAS hosted a Night Out event for eighth grade students from the West Chester Area School District. The event was held at the East Goshen Community Park. On July 3rd, we celebrated Independence day with a Lunar X party at the Knabb residence.

CCAS Awards
Don Knabb received the Lunar award from the Astronomical League and Jim Anderson received the first ever CCAS Founder Award. The award is in honor of society founder, Ed Lurcott.
